PROTECTING SENIORS

Several years ago, Janice served as Vice-Chair of the ad-hoc Second Level Lodging Homes Review Committee. She chaired meetings of City and Regional staff, retirement home administrators, and agencies at which operational standards were developed to ensure quality care, and that the hygienic, nutritional and other needs of the vulnerable citizens in retirement homes throughout the City are met.

Janice has also been a strong advocate for reducing operating expenses of marginal benefit to the community. This is needed to keep property taxes affordable so that pensioners and others on fixed incomes can afford to remain in their homes.

She has responded to phone calls and emails, whether from seniors or others needing assistance, throughout her term of office and has worked hard to help whenever called upon. Whether a senior is struggling with high curbs in their neighbourhood and curb cuts are needed, or there is a stressful noise issue, or a diseased tree limb is threatening to fall on their home … whatever the problem, Janice has been only a phone call away and always eager to help when called upon.
