On the Jolley Cut ...

I have been consistently pro-conservation on heritage and environment matters. I was one of the two aldermen who consistently opposed the proposed sale of the Jolley Cut from the very first time it was raised at Council.
The “Jolley Cut” is the road allowance at the eastern end of Robinson Street which is the trail used by many as a quick shortcut down to Queen Victoria Park.
I made a motion in February 2002 motion for Council to go on record as being opposed to the sale of this publicly-owned land. Unfortunately, despite the petition already bearing, at that time, 5,000+ signatures, my Motion was defeated.
I have pushed for the Jolley Cut to be recognized as a significant natural heritage feature under the Ontario Heritage Act, which would give it additional public recognition and an added measure of protection.
